The Heavenly Man

I am reading this book by Brother Yun.  It is extraordinary, and so challenging.  I think I will have to read it again when I am finished because there is so much to be learned from it.

I am hungering for more of God - I think about Him and talk to Him throughout the day.  I want to know Him more.

Up and down

I had a bad day today, mainly from being overtired.  I keep on going to bed too late (after 10 pm), I have trouble getting to sleep, and then my sleep is broken by one or two of the children, then I get woken up early and don't get back to sleep, and then I do the same thing again the next night.  I spent a lot of time crying today.

We were supposed to go to dh's office Christmas party tonight, but I couldn't face it in my emotionally exhausted state.  It wasn't even that much fun last year anyway.  Instead dh has taken the older two children to their grandparents' house for the night, and we might watch a DVD.

I had an eye test yesterday and my eyesight has improved!  I don't need correction lenses for my left eye any more.  My right eye is about the same.  That makes it easier (and cheaper) to wear contacts, as I will only need to put one in.  I lost my glasses a while ago and have been going without glasses or contacts, even when driving.  Not good.  I try not to drive long distance or at night, but still, it's against the law.

K is still not having solids on a regular basis.  She doesn't seem to need them yet.  Every other day or so I give her apple pieces in a mesh bag, or egg yolk.  She enjoys that.  She used to vocalise using chirpy, high-pitched sounds, but she has taken to growling instead.  It's very funny.

A (my 2-year old boy) has chicken pox.  He has had a very mild case, thankfully.  Now we are waiting for everyone else (including dh) to get it.

L had her 4th birthday last week.  She has just started drawing people.  It is her favourite activity at home. She draws them on small squares of paper - memo sheets.  She draws people she knows and tries to depict their hair and clothes.  She makes presents by drawing a person, cutting it out, and then wrapping the picture in more paper and sticking tape all over it.

That black dog

Winston Churchill called it 'the black dog' - the depression that kept at his heels and could not be shaken off.  I believed I was healed, but no.  This one seems here to stay.  I escape for a while but it always finds me again.

What can I do?  I didn't want to get up this morning.  Didn't want to eat.  Definately didn't want to go to church.  Not that I don't believe... I just can't face it.  A quiet morning at home does more good.

I need to assess the value of the things I am doing in the light of how they are affecting my walk with God.

It's been a while

K is five months old now.  She has doubled her birth weight and more, all on mama's milk  I gave solids to the other two earlier than this, but am determined to wait longer this time.  She can be unsettled during the day, but still sleeps well at night.  I think she is starting to teethe, as she dribbles a lot.

Our Playcentre has had more new families come in the last couple of months.  They have brought renewed energy & enthusiasm.  We also have a new President, who is a very efficient and capable person, and has a good sense of humour - vital!  She is a Christian as well.  Most of the core families at our centre are believers.  We are starting to have fun again - not so stressed and overworked.  We have changed some of the ways we do things, which has helped.  For example, we now employ a cleaner, rather than doing all the cleaning ourselves at the end of a session when we were all tired and wanting to get our children home.  We also have changed our way of observing the children to a new system which is easier and more effective.

Playcentre

Last week it was looking like our Playcentre would have to close.  I was so sad.  We are stressed out and overworked.  But ... it looks like the Association for our region will come to our rescue and help us with the things that we can't do with our limited numbers, resources and energy levels.  They are looking at helping us improve our building, applying for grants etc, looking after the treasurer role, helping with PR and promoting our centre, and administration.  I'm glad, because we live in a community that NEEDS Playcentre, with its positive, family-centred, child-respecting environment.  We just need to make our Playcentre better, and more widely known.
